Welcome to The Boot Room!

More to the point, welcome to the painstakingly renovated Boot Room blog, home of the PREDICTIONS CUP (TM).

It's here on the blog that the real work gets done. You see, anyone can click on a fantasy football website to choose players that will collect more points each week than I can even dream of. But it takes a real man (or lady) to make snide comments about those successful people on a quiet, rarely visited blog. I'm that kind of man (or lady), and I know that many others in our league are too. So let's get started!!!

A particularly warm welcome to the new players this season. For the new folk, please feel free to introduce yourselves here. To kick things off, here's a brief guide to some of the league's veteran players:

Name: CT
Hometown: Oxford via Wellington, NZ
Characteristics: A plucky little fighter, CT had a rough season last time out. But she's fully rested and has ambitious plans to take her Stubbies to the very top!
Typical blog post: YouTube clips unrelated to football

Name: Geoff Goodwin
Hometown: Philadelphia PA via Brisbane
Characteristics: Last year's winner, Guus Bumps is making a triumphant return, but many astute observers believe that this year's campaign may be fatally undermined by complacency.
Typical blog post: Losing PREDICTIONs

Name: Simon Petrie a.k.a. Derin Town
Hometown: London
Characteristics: Actually a new player rather than a veteran, Simon is my soon-to-be-brother-in-law. Despite his hubris is naming his team after himself, and himself after his team, Petrie promises much in his debut season.
Typical blog post: ?

Name: Jason Riis
Hometown: Boston MA
Characteristics: Significantly taller than Geoff Goodwin, Riis took a break last season while he had better things to do (in New York???). But now he's moved to a small town in upstate New England, and he's remembered who his friends are!!
Typical blog post: I'm just expecting lots of 'em, now he has all this time on his hands.

Right, that's it for now -- it's my bedtime. I'll continue with the introductions shortly, unless I'm beaten to the punch. Looking forward to the season!!!

Name: Tom Lorusso
Hometown: Originally from just outside New York City but now a proud Seattle resident for over 7 years.
Characteristics: Trying desperately to be a reall "football" fan by watching EPL all last year and enjoying every minute of it. I'm excited to be in a real UK fantasy league. I also pretend to play soccer a couple of times a week, as well as a slow, unskilled american guy can play.
Typical blog post: Probably not too many of them, but I'll try to get in an MLS reference into each one.

Good to see the Boot Room returning with a new personal touch! And welcome to the newbies! A couple more personality sketches to add:

Name: Dena Gromet
Hometown: Princeton, via Providence, RI
Characteristics: Desperately competitive, with a will to win that is matched only by Nick Yeung. Has a penchant for selecting injured players, particularly Tim Cahill, and "poster boys" such as David Bentley, which is again likely to be her downfall this season.
Typical blog post: null. Too busy tinkering with the team.

Name: Joe Simmons
Hometown: New Haven, CT, via Baltimore, MD
Characteristics: Did someone mention will to win? Simmons has that in abundance, coupled with a ruthless statistical mindset, that could make him the complete package in this league. Questions remain about his ability to acquire relevant player knowledge, but if he does he certainly won't be sentimental in his selections. Unlike Gromet's team, there will be no pretty boys in Simmons' team. A player to watch.
Typical blog post: Unknown, but they have an expected utility of approximately .95.

Name: Nick "PREDICTION MASTER" Yeung
Characteristics: Our resident blog master, Nick spends far too much time tinkering with the blog, and with his lovely Oxford bird garden, than he does with his team. Once a formidable force in the league, Nick has slid to the ranks of mediocrity, making happy company with the Alter's and Taylor's of the league. He probably can't match Leif Nelson's epically bad first season on the BootRoom, but he could go close. Theme for the season: Will the British resurgence in the Olympics inspire Nick to claim an Intertoto Cup spot?
Typical blog post: No-one can fault him on this. Many and varied, although tend to taper off by November.

Addendum:
By the way, I believe last year's victory added an extra couple of centimetres, so I dispute the notion that Jason Riis is still taller than me.
